MEET MR. DANIEL FAULKNER, RCDSO REGISTRAR

You are invited to this Town Hall meeting with new RCDSO Registrar, Daniel Faulkner. He will be joined by Dr. Flavio Turchet, RCDSO President and Dr. Michael Gardner, Director of Quality Assurance.

Mr. Faulkner will address his vision for the RCDSO, where the regulations are going, and current issues.

There will be also be a Q&A session. Please forward your questions in advance to info@ottawadentalsociety.org. The deadline to submit questions is Friday, October 16, 2020.

Biographies

Daniel Faulkner is a recognized regulatory leader with over 25 years of experience in health care and professional regulation. He graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Science in Pharmacology and Toxicology from Western University, and earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Health Services Management from McMaster University.

Daniel spent a  large portion of his career with one of Canada's largest regulatory authorities, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). During his tenure at CPSO, he held several senior leadership roles including Director of Quality Management, Deputy Registrar and Interim CEO & Registrar.

In addition to formal regulatory work, Daniel founded Lakeview Regulatory Consultants, advising regulators and related organizations on a  wide variety of complex governance, strategy, and program-related challenges. Daniel's career spans all aspects of regulatory program oversight including practice-based assessments, quality improvement, national licensure and professional mobility, and practice risked-based solutions informed by evidence.

He recently Co-Chaired the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care's Working Group which completed the first Ontario performance measurement framework for health professional Colleges.

As the Registrar of the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario Dan is committed to regulatory excellence that is informed by data and evidence, proportional to risk of harm, and accountable and transparent to the public and stakeholders.


Dr. Flavio Turchet is President of the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO). He is a University of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry alumnus from the class of DDS 78. Since graduating he has maintained a thriving clinical practice in the Bloor West Village neighbourhood of Toronto. An active contributor to the dental community includes being a restorative clinical instructor at U of T Faculty of Dentistry for many years. Dr. Turchet has been a member of the ODA since graduating in 1978. He served as past President of the West Toronto Dental Society and has been Governor for West Toronto to the ODA. He has also twice been past President of Toronto Academy of Dentistry. Dr. Turchet joined RCDSO in 2012 and has held diverse chairing and membership roles leading to being elected President in January 2019.

 

 

Dr. Michael Gardner received his DDS from the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto in 1986. While maintaining a private practice, he joined the RCDSO staff in 1996 on a part-time basis, serving as an Investigator and Monitoring Officer, and in 1998, he became the College’s first Professional Practice Advisor. In 2000, Dr. Gardner left private practice to join the full-time staff of the College, and was soon appointed Assistant to the Registrar in the Complaints, Investigations and Hearings area of the College. In 2009, Dr. Gardner became the College’s Manager of Quality Assurance and in 2016, he was promoted to Director.
