Course Outline:
Traumatic dental injuries occur at the least convenient time and require of the practitioner a broad range of diagnostic and clinical skills. Learn about rapid diagnosis of traumatic injuries; assessing prognosis and future treatment; emergency splinting techniques; periodontal and restorative considerations. Contemporary management of luxation injuries, root fractures and coronal fractures will be presented. The lecture is amply illustrated with numerous case presentations.

This presentation will provide an overview of treatment methods based on the most recently published Guidelines for the Management of Traumatic Dental Injuries published by the International Association of Dental Traumatology, with an emphasis on minimizing complications while enhancing prognosis.

Learning Objectives:
After this presentation attendees should know how to:

Rapidy assess and document traumatic injuries
Provide emergency care and stage future treatment
Determine which factors influence ultimate prognosis
Know when and for how long to splint injured teeth
Minimize complications associated with dentoalveolar trauma
Treat avulsed and luxated teeth, root fractures and reattachment of fractured teeth segments
Manage injuries of the immature vs mature permanent tooth

Biography:
Dr. Anthony DiAngelis is currently a professor at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry and Chief Emeritus of Dentisty at Hennepin Healthcare/HCMC. Throughout his academic career, Dr. DiAngelis maintained a private practice in Minneapolis. Dr. DiAngelis is a frequest guest lecturer both nationally and internationally and has contributed numerous publications to the scientific literature, as well as having served or currently serving on the editorial boards of JADA, Quintessence, and Dental Traumatology. He has served as an officer and on the board of directors of the International Association of Dental Traumatology for more than 10 years.
